Here you will find
information about what agencies and individuals in
the state of Florida are doing to promote
Independent Living.
The
Florida Independent Living Council, Inc., the
Florida Department of Education, the Division of
Vocational Rehabilitation and the Division of
Blind Services are pleased to post the State
Plan for Independent Living, effective October
1, 2007. The Florida Independent Living Council,
Inc. began working on the plan in the early fall
of 2006. Information was initially gathered from
Center for Independent Living (CIL) Focus Groups
(including CIL staff and consumers) as well as
from three formal public forums throughout
Florida. Representatives from the FILC Board of
Directors, CIL Executive Directors and DVR/DBS
Independent Living Program Managers developed
the plan collaboratively. All parties are
confident that the plan addresses important
issues and concerns facing people with
disabilities in our state in an effective and
responsible manner. We look forward to the
implementation of the plan as we work toward the
actualization of the Independent Living
philosophy in the State of Florida.
